Good Practice

EU FLAG projects as of February 2020With the second generation of FLAGs now up and running, there is a growing number of project examples from the past and the present which can inspire other actions aimed at developing fisheries and aquaculture areas around Europe, be it through economic, environmental or social support and investment.
The project descriptions and short stories below give an insight into some of the local projects funded by the FLAGs, while the methods provide helpful examples of effective programme management, ranging from community outreach to FLAG self-assessment.

    The Gargano LAG integrated the promotion of cultural and gastronomy heritage into their local development plan. This includes the development and promotion of the seafood sector. To do so, it supported the development of the Pesca Mia app, which connects the seafood sector, restaurants and private consumers.

    COVID-19 paralysed many sectors of the economy in the Basque Country. Although the fisheries sector, like other food-producing sectors, was given priority during the pandemic, the lack of security and low-priced seafood could have forced many vessels and fishing organisations to stop working.

    Due FLAG limitrofi cooperano per sostenere la diffusione di MonPêcheur, un’applicazione per dispositivi mobili che favorisce il contatto tra pescatori locali e consumatori, offrendo agli operatori della pesca una piattaforma digitale per comunicare, promuovere e vendere il pescato direttamente al consumatore.

    Un’azienda locale costituita una ventina d’anni fa dalla comunità di Achill ha creato un acquario in un edificio in disuso di sua proprietà; allo scopo, l’azienda ha coinvolto volontari, pescatori in pensione e lavoratori connessi con la filiera della pesca. “The Achill Experience Aquarium and Visitors Centre” è diventato il primo spazio culturale in Irlanda basato sul patrimonio ittico, nonché una delle principali attrazioni della contea.
