  • Legends of Kitka: videogamers, get ready to fish!

    In 2013, to limit the proliferation of “fake” products using the name of the local fish, “Kitkan Viisas” vendace, fishermen from Kuusamo, Northern Finland, teamed up to secure its listing in the EU’s Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) scheme. To further promote this unique product, a web and mobile video game, called the Legends of Kitka, was also developed.
  • National networks – connecting FLAGs and building local capacity in CLLD

    National networks (NNs) play an important role in developing the capacity of FLAGs and managing authorities (MAs), and in stimulating and supporting transnational cooperation. In Estonia, the NN 2007-2013 worked in close collaboration with the MA to facilitate dialogue and ensure good cooperation between all actors involved in fisheries CLLD. It also developed information tools, and provided guidance and capacity building for the FLAGs

    FLAG communication activities can be an important catalyst for innovation and change, and are a transversal element in the local development strategy. Through effective communication, the Adriatico Salentino FLAG in Puglia, Italy, has helped to empower local fishermen to become drivers of change in their communities.

    Grâce à sa collaboration avec les pêcheurs et les créateurs locaux, et inspirée par les techniques traditionnelles d'autres communautés de pêche d’Europe, une jeune entrepreneuse française a développé un procédé innovant de tannage de peau de poisson. Elle propose maintenant son « cuir marin» aux créateurs de mode dans toute la France.

    Le soutien financier de l’Axe 4 a permis à un pêcheur de l'île de Hiiumaa, en Estonie, de diversifier ses activités en dehors de la saison de pêche grâce à la production d'engins de pêche et de différentes sortes de filets. En plus de créer un emploi à temps partiel pour lui-même, le pêcheur a également créé quatre emplois à temps plein pour des femmes de l’île.
