    The dello Stretto FLAG from Italy wishes to compare current states of fishing techniques, storage, distribution, gastronomic traditions and land management as well as integrated development strategies for the coastal areas of project partners. careful analysis of these factors, starting from fishing grounds to the production places, can create added value for involved territories and cultures.

    The territory of VEGAC covers the entire coast between the mouth of the river Tagliamento (North) and the northern pier of the Port of Chioggia (South). Economically, the area developed since the seventies into a major seaside resort system characterized by tourist flows thanks to the large sandy shoreline north of the Venice lagoon and to the proximity to the historic city of Venice.

    The FLAG North-West area is found along the coasts of counties Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim and comprises the 69 local electoral areas extending 10km from the coastline. Fishing and tourism are prominent within the coastal towns. There are 219 licenced registered fishing vessels in the area and 60% of these are day boats under eight metres in length.

    The FLAG area is located on the western tip of the Brittany peninsula, covering a range of urban, rural and coastal environments. Its important urban centre, the Brest Metropolis is home to the second biggest military port in France. However, with over 600 km of coastline, the area is overwhelmingly defined by its maritime identity.

    The Åland Islands is an autonomous Swedish-speaking region of Finland which forms an archipelago in the Baltic Sea at the mouth of the Gulf of Bothnia between eastern Sweden and south western Finland. There are over 6 500 skerries and islands which make up the Åland Islands.

    The Entrecabos area covers two municipalities, located in the centre of the Asturian region and between (“entre”) two capes (“cabos”) that serve as prominent landmarks in the territory. The area is steeped in maritime and cultural heritage as well as natural resources. Unfortunately, these characteristics are not widely known.

    The Lemesos FLAG is found in southern Cyprus and bordered by the district of Paphos and Larnaca. The FLAG area covers ten communities within the Limassol district and Municipality. Within the locality, the area of Amathus, in the Agios Tychonas community, is designated as a marine protected area for historical reasons.

    The North East FLAG area covers the coast of counties Fingal, Meath and Louth. This area is home to almost 8% of the national fleet, the most important Razor Clam (Ensis siliqua) and Cockle (Cerastoderma edule) fisheries in Ireland, and the southern section of the of North Irish Sea Nephrop Ground. Aquaculture in this region is focused around Carlingford Lough and produces oysters and mussels.

    The name of the coastal area of Costa da Morte (“Coast of Death”) refers to its partly rough and rocky shoreline. In between, the coastline which offers attractive beaches and areas of high environmental value. The FLAG has twelve small harbours which generate crucial employment for their immediate surroundings.
