The FLAG area is a sub region on the island of Evia which is geographically located in the epicentre of the Greek Mainland. The main challenges in the area are sustainable development, increasing competitiveness, job creation and improving the quality of life.

The FLAG area is part of Evia Island, Greece’s second largest island in terms of size and population after Crete, and located in the centre of Greece. The FLAG area has a strong level of community cohesion. Despite this, they still face issues related to an ageing population. The primary sector is characterised by small-scale fisheries and small-scale agriculture. Tourism is very important for the economy of the region.

The FLAG area is in the western part of Lithuania, near the Curonian Lagoon. Almost the entire district is situated in the Lithuanian coastal lowlands. Lagoons and bodies of water occupy 19% of the area which is famous for water sports and recreational fishing. On the island of Rusnė, there are three main ports.

The Itria Valley F/LAG occupies an area between the three main cities of the Apulia Region: Bari, Brindisi and Taranto. It is also called the Trulli’s Valley due to the presence of the traditional Apulian stone buildings. The shore is mostly rocky with small sandy bays, and it is characterised by Mediterranean scrub (“la macchia mediterranea”).

The West Central Sardinia FLAG area has a varied landscape of limestone cliffs and lowland sandy coasts which feature many wet habitats and lagoons.

The FLAG area lies within the northern part of the province of Viterbo or ‘Tuscia’ and comprises Lake Bolsena. The lake is currently surrounded by numerous tourist establishments which, in large, cater for camping and agrotourism.

The FLAG’s area covers over 150km of the Tyrrhenian coastline, including the provinces of Cosenza and Catanzaro. The coastline is characteristically sandy and rocky and is scattered with many small mountain villages. The main tourism location in the area is the city of Diamante.

The FLAG area is characterised by a high-quality coastal and lagoon environment, hinterlands full of valuable historic centres. and a well-developed coast including resorts. Management systems for natural resources protection are present and oeno-gastronomical tourism is well developed.

The coast of Läänemaa is sparsely populated, has a low relief and a coastline that is split sharply. Fishing has traditionally been mostly small-scale but in recent years has benefited from the expansion of several ports in the area.
