Area

La Marina FLAG area consists of seven municipalities on the Mediterranean coastal area of Alicante which are Benidorm, Calp, El Campello, Dénia, Xàbia, Teulada and La Vila Joiosa. The municipalities belong to the three coastal regional provinces of La Marina Alta, La Marina Baixa and y L´Alacantí.

Tourism is the area’s predominant sector, accounting for 70% of the region’s economy. Fishing catches have fallen significantly in recent years, a decrease most notable in the municipalities of El Campello and Teulada. Common catches include sardine, anchovy, hake, prawn, lobster and monkfish. A key challenge to the area is protecting its fisheries industry and heritage while sustainably growing its tourism sector.
