FLAG Factsheet
--ARCHIVED as of 31 January 2020-- The FLAG area covers the North Thames from Thurrock to Shoeburyness in Essex and is based around the port at Leigh-on-Sea. The port is the first when travelling up the Thames from London and has significant cultural importance in the area, attracting tourists from all over South East England. The major fisheries industry in Leigh-on-Sea is the cockle fishery which dominates much of the port. However, there are also several trawlers targeting mixed fisheries in the Greater Thames and Southern North Sea areas

Ο συνδυασμός δημιουργικής σκέψης και επένδυσης οδήγησε στη δημιουργία της πρώτης μονάδας ανακύκλωσης της Δανίας για την επεξεργασία διογκωμένου πολυστυρενίου με σκοπό την παραγωγή πλαστικών σφαιριδίων που μπορούν να πωλούνται σε εταιρείες μεταποίησης για μια ευρεία γκάμα προϊόντων. Αυτό συνιστά πολύ μεγάλη πρόοδο σε ό,τι αφορά την αξιοποίηση των χρησιμοποιημένων τελάρων ψαριών.

In collaboration with WWF Spain, and levering in funding from UP 1 of the EMFF, the Cádiz Estrecho FLAG is setting up an MPA to ensure the sustainable future of its natural environment and fisheries. While the fisheries of Cádiz have always been proactive in the protection of natural resources, further measures were deemed necessary to sufficiently protect the area’s marine environment.

This FLAG project assesses the challenges of managing the discards produced by the artisanal fishing fleet in the Pontevedra Estuary, Spain. The project clarifies the impact new EU landing obligations will have on the fleet and outlines the future implications and consequences of the measures when they come into force.
