The FLAG covers the coastline of Gran Canaria, the most populated of the seven Canary Islands. Tourism is the main engine of Gran Canaria’s economy, 63% of which is divided between the retail trade and the restaurant sector.

Poniente Almeriense is situated in the southwest of the Almería province and comprises a 35km coastline. It is boarded to the north by the Sierra de Gádor and the Alborán Sea to the south. West of the FLAG area is the municipality of Albuñol (Granada) and to the east is the Gulf of Almería. From a social perspective, there is a strong unity between the FLAG area’s four municipalities.

The FLAG area comprises six coastal municipalities which all have a strong marine and fishing tradition and culture. The area, like most in the coastal enclaves of the Mediterranean, has a large population. The services industry, particularly the tourism sector, accounts for a high percentage of businesses, jobs, and sales in the area.

The Ebro FLAG operates on the Mediterranean coast, in the south of Catalonia. It borders with Aragon to the West and the region of Valencia to the south. The municipalities covered are located along the final stretch of the Ebro river, in the unique setting of the Ebro Delta. The most important port in the area is Sant Carlos de la Ràpita.

The La Plana FLAG area covers the provinces of the three coastal regions of Baix Maestrat, Plana Alta and Plana Baixa. Fisheries and aquaculture only account for 5% of employment. Over a five-year period, fishing activity has reduced, and the number of active fishing vessels has decreased by more than 10%.

The FLAG area covers the municipalities of Castro Urdiales, Colindres, Laredo and Santoña, along the eastern coast of Cantabria. The county boasts a rich landscape of wetlands with canals, river deltas and muddy plains, including the Santoña Natural Park.

The Eastern Asturias FLAG area consists of four municipalities: Caravia, Ribadesella, Llanes and Ribadedeva. Although located on the periphery of Asturias region, the area’s location does not present any infrastructural or service insufficiencies. The area has a strong tourism sector, which represents nearly 80% of its economic activity.

The FLAG is located between the Danube and Olt rivers and benefits from various fishing and aquaculture resources that allow opportunities for activities such as tourism or sport fishing.

The FLAG area is situated in Western Pomerania in the county of Kołobrzeg. The Parsęta river flows through the area and at its estuary there is a harbour with many functions including trade, fishing, passenger traffic etc.

The FLAG area covers the whole lake Vättern, which is the second largest lake in Sweden. There are around 20 commercial small-scale fishermen and the species of greatest economic value is crayfish.
