FLAG Factsheets by theme

FLAGs are partnerships between fisheries actors and other local private and public stakeholders. Together, they design and implement a local development strategy to address their area´s needs be they economic, social and/or environmental. Based on their strategy, the FLAGs select and provide funding to local projects that contribute to local development in their areas, involving thousands of local stakeholders.

    The FLAG area stretches along the coastal strip overlooking the Gulf of Naples, and features strong views of the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida throughout. Close to Naples, there is a significant amount of interaction between urban and coastal areas.

    The FLAG covers the entire 130km coast of the Emilia-Romagna region. In this region fishing and lagoon fish farming have a tradition for centuries. The local economy is mainly based on fishing, aquaculture, mari-culture and summer coastal tourism.

    The FLAG area is characterised by a high-quality coastal and lagoon environment, hinterlands full of valuable historic centres. and a well-developed coast including resorts. Management systems for natural resources protection are present and oeno-gastronomical tourism is well developed.

    The FLAG area lies within the northern part of the province of Viterbo or ‘Tuscia’ and comprises Lake Bolsena. The lake is currently surrounded by numerous tourist establishments which, in large, cater for camping and agrotourism.

    The East Liguria FLAG area covers all coastal municipalities of the provinces of Genoa and La Spezia, and is characterised by a geographical continuity and economical homogeneity based on micro and small businesses (mostly engaged in the trade and tourism sector).

    The area is characterised by a strong coastal urbanisation receiving 50% of the tourists that visit the Ligurian coast. Agriculture and industry are also well developed.
