FLAG Factsheet
Historically linked with the tobacco trade commerce as well as fish processing and retail, Kavala city is a beautiful amphitheatrical city open to Aegean Sea. The most important features of the area are the fisheries sector which accounts for 1.55% of total employment in the area including small-scale and large-scale fishing.
The main challenges in this area include high unemployment and the limited development of tourism. It is hoped to solve these challenges by creating a unique local identity linked with the sea and the fisheries sector.
The Sea area of Palio Golf is classified as an area of outstanding natural beauty and constitutes 1.98% of the total area.
The main thematic direction of the FLAG’s strategy is to support local entrepreneurship and promote local identity in so far as it is connected with the sea and the fisheries sector. Additionally, it aims to improve the competitiveness of fisheries products, as well as the quality of life in the fisheries area.
The main aim is to address the challenges through promoting financial restructuring, employment and sustainable development with a focus on the sea and fisheries activities as well as blue growth sectors.
