  • French FLAG helps launch a CLLD-type dynamic in Tunisia

    A four-year project to bring participative local development to the Kerkennah islands has proved that CLLD can be a valuable tool beyond the shores of Europe. Funded by ENPARD under the EU’s neighbourhood policy, the project, known as DEVLOK, has invested around €1.2M in these Tunisian fishing communities, diversifying the local economy and creating 47 new companies and 89 jobs.

    --ARCHIVED as of 31 January 2020-- Pembrokeshire has a long tradition of fishing, both sea and freshwater. Tenby was the prime fishing port of the area for many centuries. More recently Milford Haven has developed and taken more of a predominant role in the area’s fishing industry; this was also due in large to Tenby becoming more of a holiday resort.

    In collaboration with WWF Spain, and levering in funding from UP 1 of the EMFF, the Cádiz Estrecho FLAG is setting up an MPA to ensure the sustainable future of its natural environment and fisheries. While the fisheries of Cádiz have always been proactive in the protection of natural resources, further measures were deemed necessary to sufficiently protect the area’s marine environment.
