FLAG Factsheet
The Posavje FLAG area is a geographically independent unit in the south-east of Slovenia which covers six municipalities and four urban centres. The area is rich in natural resources (woodlands, waterways, and thermal springs), has diverse natural and cultural heritage and conditions that are favourable for agriculture. The area has a few stable and strong companies (in energy, tourism and industry), a well-developed educational network, and numerous cultural, sports and social events, as well as a well-developed support network for young people.
The area has four small-scale and one large-scale producer of freshwater fish. The locality has a reputation for its long tradition in fishery, its high quality of fisheries products, and good local and regional recognisability. The most common species are rainbow trout, Danube salmon and brook, which are mostly sold on the local markets.
Specific challenges include a lack of jobs; weak value chain linkages; revitalisation of old town centres and cultural heritage; preservation of nature, water sources and indigenous species; social inclusion; active ageing; the economic and social status of the youth; promoting healthy lifestyle; and the integration of immigrants.
22% of the FLAG is made up of Natura 2000: sites including part of Kozjanski Regional Park.
Through co-operation of public, private and civil society sectors, LAG Posavje promotes creativity and innovation for the provision of green employment and products with added value. The FLAG believes that a high level of preservation of nature and environment, self-sufficiency and a sense of community enable high quality of life and existence for all inhabitants.
Proposed measures include: business ideas for new jobs; innovative partnerships for growth; local infrastructure for services in rural areas; development of freshwater aquaculture; ecological improvement, and the preservation of natural areas.
