--ARCHIVED as of 31 January 2020-- The Holderness Coast fisheries is a small scale coastal fisheries area specialising in crab and lobster. It is a vibrant industry which continues to grow and develop in the context of a struggling coastal economy traditionally dependant on seaside tourism.

In recent years, the Aberdeenshire fishing community has seen a sharp increase in migrant labour, working both at sea and in the processing sector, in particular from the Philippines, Ghana and Eastern Europe.

A two-year pilot project working with fishermen to improve their overall health and well-being and connect them with local health and well-being services.

The Orkney Fisheries Research project is supporting the bottom-up delivery of a management plan and providing the evidence base for MSC accreditation for the brown crab fishery and other species in local waters.

--ARCHIVED as of 31 January 2020-- The FLAG area has been selected because of its wide geographical range and its potential to benefit as many small fishing communities as possible. The local fishery has an extremely diverse range of fish and shellfish species.

A combination of one-to-one engagement with local fisheries businesses, networking them with each other and the provision of business mentoring support has helped improve the supply of local fish into the Northern Devon market and create new economic activities.

Fishing communities of County Down in Northern Ireland have been struggling in recent times but the initiative ‘Maritime Heritage Tourism Infrastructure and Communication Project’ was able to give the region a major boost, particularly in the three port towns of Ardglass, Kilkeel and Portavogie.

--ARCHIVED as of 31 January 2020-- Cooperation is organised differently in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales - at Regional level in Scotland and England, while Wales and Northern Ireland leave cooperation up to the FLAGs to organise. The programme authorities are keen that cooperation projects come from the bottom up so, along with the fact that there is little experience in FLAG cooperation in the UK, they foresee that any cooperation projects are likely to emerge later in the programming period.

--ARCHIVED as of 31 January 2020-- The FLAG area is distinguished by its intrinsic remoteness and natural beauty, illustrated by the high number of wildlife and landscape designations along the coast. The FLAG covers approximately 290 miles (467km) of coastline from Cairnryan in the East to Gretna in the West and includes the port at Kirkcudbright is which is in the top 20 UK ports by catch value.
