Today is the World Water Day!
The UN declared 22nd March the World Water Day on 22nd March 1993.
Water is an essential resource. This year’s theme for World Water Day is ‘Leaving no one behind’: this is one of the main objective of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water for all by 2030. By definition, it means leaving no one behind.
Water is a fundamental right. In 2010, the UN recognized “the right to safe and clean drinking water and sanitation as a human right that is essential for the full enjoyment of life and all human rights.”
World Water Day is organized by UN-Water – this UN inter-agency collaboration mechanism deals with all freshwater related issues - in collaboration with governments and partners.
