Title of the commitment Maintaining a public health approach in EU action on marketing, labeling and packaging of alcohol
Commitment summary EPHA will ensure the exchange of information in the following ways:

1. EPHA will provide its members with a monthly update on alcohol policy that will be presented at the EPHA Policy Coordination Meeting. Written updates are distributed at the meeting and made available to members at our website.

2. EPHA will organise alcohol working groups linked to the meetings of the Alcohol Forum. The working groups establish a formal space for an exchange of information and a discussion of key NGO priorities on alcohol. The working groups are minuted and a list of action points is distributed to all EPHA and EUROCARE members working on alcohol-related issues.

3. EPHA and Eurocare jointly will host two health determinants special interest group meetings per year. The special interest group brings together those members working on health determinants and alcohol policy is a permanent agenda point.

4. EPHA will continue to use its alcohol mailing list to contact members with news, information on events, or consultation on internal EPHA policy decisions.

5. EPHA will publish all documents prepared by the Secretariat in members' only section of the monthly EPHA newsletter. Other relevant news items relating to alcohol will be made publicly available on the website and in the newsletter.

Information about the commitment

Background to the commitment (if any) EPHA will update members and its newsletter on alcohol-related issues via the PCMs. Through its commitment to disseminate information with our members' organisations, EPHA will provide reporting of relevant, up-to-date information on national and European alcohol developments, the systematic reporting of all events attended by EPHA Secretariat. EPHA along with its members will continue to call for the renewal of the alcohol strategy and monitor the implementation of the action plan on alcohol related harm.

Information on monitoring

Objectives It is intended that these commitments will:
1. Develop the knowledge of EPHA members in relation to European alcohol policy and therefore improve their tools to better advocate for adequate and necessary alcohol policies.
2. Improve the key messages that can be used to build public awareness of different aspects of alcohol policy.
3. Help address alcohol policy at local, regional, national and European level.
Relevance (i.e. how will the commitment contribute to achieving the aim of the Forum ?) Health determinants remain the primary focus of activity for many of EPHA's members. With these commitments EPHA wishes to follow on with the previous work related to Alcohol that has been done in the past years, keeping its link with the Forum's work and with EPHA's member organisations work.
