5. Description of the lead organisation
Nidos is the national guardianship institution for over 3.500 unaccompanied children in the Netherlands. Nidos has worked hard over the last decade to improve the situation of unaccompanied children and separated children in the Netherlands but also in the EU for instance through working on concepts of professional and specialised guardianship, development of childcare in foster families (close to ethnic background), systematically spreading and sharing knowledge, bringing together networks within ENGI. Nidos is also a CEDEO-certified training institute, providing professional training in youth care, acknowledged in a professional points-system. Nidos initiated the European network ENGI, worked – mostly as applicant – on many European projects focusing on unaccompanied children and/or guardianship in the past years and has standing contacts and cooperation with the EC and its agencies in the area of work.

16. General description of activities
The project delivered a practical toolkit for guardians which includes a train-the-trainer programme (www.guardianstoolkit.eu), a recommendation report and the Pilot Assessment system (PAS). The PAS is a tool which national guardianship systems can use to assess whether their own system fulfils common and transparently defined European standards on guardianship for unaccompanied children in migration. The outcomes and deliverables of the ProGuard project were officially transferred to the European Guardianship Network (EGN) in September 2019 and it was agreed that the members will further discuss the way they can contribute to the network’s mission to develop safe, effective and consistent ways of delivering high quality, child rights based, and accessible guardianship services in the near future.
