The NTUA Road Safety Observatory (NRSO) is a Center of Research and Innovation Excellence on Road Safety, with global recognition [ranked: 2nd in Europe and 6th worldwide (AAP 2018)].
The high level scientific personnel of the NTUA Road Safety Observatory (Internationally recognized Professors, Senior Transportation Engineers - Research Associates, Junior Transportation Engineers and IT Engineers) demonstrate a high level scientific expertise covering all fields of road safety (road user behaviour, road infrastructure, vehicle, road safety management) with emphasis on data analysis and management as well on Its and automation. The scientific outcome of the NTUA Road Safety Observatory is produced within more than 100 road safety research projects (mostly international) since '90s, which has led to more than 500 road safety scientific publications, widely cited worldwide.
The Vision of the NTUA Road Safety Observatory is to contribute to the significant reduction of the number of road accidents and of the related casualties in Greece, in Europe and worldwide through the scientific support of evidence based decision making for the necessary road safety policies, programmes and measures.
The NTUA Road Safety Observatory operates since 2004 a fully open and dynamic web-based road safety information system (www.nrso.ntua.gr) containing a wealth of most updated data and knowledge (more than 1.300 items) with:
- new key Reports covering all modern road safety issues
- latest available road safety Data for Greece and the EU
- all important road safety News in Europe and globally
- exhaustive list of road safety Conferences and Events globally
- links to dozens of road safety Resources globally
which are constantly re-posted on NRSO social media.
The NTUA Road Safety Observatory has a widespread recognition at the global road safety community, having received during the last 10 years more than 100.000 visitors and more than 2.500.000 visits (today steadily more than 3.000 visits per month) and high appearance on internet search tools (e.g. google). The highly interesting monthly NRSO newsletter (www.nrso.ntua.gr/nrso-newsletters) is received systematically since 2007 by more than 3.200 experts and stakeholders in the field of road safety in Europe and worldwide.
Key important and useful NRSO contributions to the Global Road Safety Community are the Data and Knowledge Systems, which support decision makers and stakeholders all over the world and have contributed significantly in designing and implementing successful road safety policies, programmes and measures which led to the very significant decrease of the number of accidents and related casualties in Europe during the last decades. The road safety decision support and information systems developed by the NRSO members concern:
Erso - The European Road Safety Observatory
SaferAfrica - The African Road Safety Observatory
SafetyCube - European Road Safety Decision Support System
SafeFITS - Global Road Safety Model
