This study on the Blue Growth potential in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea is one of six sea-basin studies commissioned by DG MARE. The aim of the study is to examine in closer detail the individual development patterns of the maritime industries within the EU Member States and the EU candidate and potential candidate countries, and outline their prospects for future development. Within the framework of the present study, we have evaluated the state of play and growth potential of twelve countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta, Romania, Slovenia, as well as Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Turkey bordering the Mediterranean* and the Black Sea. Some of these countries border several sea-basins (or sub-sea basins), such as Italy, Greece and Turkey. An effort to differentiate between the sea-basins and the sub-sea basins is made. In this sense, the country reports describe the maritime economic activities primarily at a country level, but also breakdown at regional level is available in the respective annexes.

An executive summary with the main findings can be found here. The full report (Report 1) of the study is available here.

Additional set of papers will guide you through the concept behind the country reports and reveal the method applied to gather and to assess the relevant data.

Adriatic and Ionian seas

As part of the study, a separate analysis to support the elaboration of the Adriatic and Ionian maritime Action Plan has been carried out. An executive summary is available here. A full report (Report 2) and the corresponding annex are also published.

Black Sea

The Black Sea has been the focus of an in-depth analysis carried out to explore the possible content and added value of maritime cooperation for the sea-basin through the identification of the main maritime actors and issues who would benefit from a sea-basin approach. The full report (incl. executive summary and the annexes) is now available (Report 3).

Mediterranean

Finally, the sustainable growth potential of the blue economy of the Meditteranean countries was analysed to allow the elaboration of a step-by-step approach towards a broader maritime cooperation framework for the sea-basin. The full report (Report 4), its executive summary and the set of annexes are available for the public.

Credo che un concreto avvio per gli studi sugli spazi marittimi sia anche di partire dalle singole regioni, come la Puglia. Almeno per il territorio italiano. Come da studi già avviati al sottoscritto.
