The Youth4Ocean Forum so far

2021 is coming to an end, and it is time for the Youth4Ocean Forum to reflect on what has happened in this (second) unusual year.

The COVID-19 pandemic continued to disrupt what we had planned but this did not stop us, and in some cases, it also gave us opportunities to speak at events which we wouldn’t have been able to attend if they were not held online.

In 2021:

-> We carried out 113 activities.

-> We gained new members of the Forum, we are now 204.

-> We welcomed 5 cohorts of Young Ocean Advocates from all over Europe, they are now 100 in total, representing 43 projects for the ocean.

-> We got the chance to meet 5 inspiring ocean experts in the “Meet a Blue Expert” series:

• Sophia Bolton from Incredible Oceans
• Catherine Chabaud, Member of the European Parliament
• Pierre-Maël Deffontaines from Ekosea
• Serge Ségura, French Ambassador for the Oceans

• Angelique Pouponneau, CEO of the Seychelles Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust

-> We represented the Youth4Ocean Forum and spoke up for Youth at 17 conferences and workshops:

• EU Green Deal Hackathon - online
• Aquaculture Europe 2020 - online (in April 2021)
• The three conferences of the Union des Conservateurs d’Aquarium de France
• European Maritime Day 2021 workshop - online
• European Atlas of the Seas workshop – online
• Journée européenne de la mer with the Secrétariat Général de la Mer - online
• Aquaculture Europe 2021 in Madeira, Portugal
• Sealogy in Ferrara in Italy
• EU Interact annual conference – online
• Women for Sea – online
• IUCN International Congress in Marseille, France

->We also attended the 3 thematic working groups of the EU4Ocean Coalition, which held regular meetings throughout the year.

We look forward to a New Year full of even more ocean preservation activities.
