The Treaty on European Union stipulates that the European Union shall respect its rich cultural and linguistic diversity, and shall ensure that Europe’s cultural heritage is safeguarded and enhanced. With the growing pressure on sea space, the pressure on our underwater heritage is increasing. And ecological systems can be reconstructed but once archaeological remains are destroyed they are gone forever.
