Target audience: Public, young to older, and people with disabilities
Mediterranean focus: Lebanon
Time: 06:30 CEST
Duration: 2.5 hours
Organised by SWIM: Sustainable Waste Intercity Marathon
The concept is to swim from the south to the north of Lebanon in sections of 3 to 5 km everyday. While the swimmers do this distance, their families, friends, and sea lovers clean the beach adjacent to where the swimming activity is taking place, and divers along the course will spot a couple of areas to clean the sea bottom.
This activity started on August 21st, and is currently ongoing to be completed on the 3rd of October gathering a number of volunteers and swimmers crescendo as we go. The 25th and 26th of September we have two areas to clean and swim (Chekka and Batroun). All gathered waste is sent to recycling companies, and the masses of volunteers mobilised are such that in 2.5 hours, there is a drastic visible change between, before and after.
