Kelp Blue grows giant kelp forests at commercial scale to restore ocean health through carbon sequestration, de-acidification and introduction of biodiversity, at the same time helping we produce environmentally friendly feedstock and bio-stimulants which increase crop yields. We combine environmental sustainability with financial success, creating a positive effect for the planet, people and profits.
The problem we are solving
We are enriching the ocean whilst being economically sustainable, at unprecedented level; We are applying innovation to the traditional practice of kelp farming to overcome barriers to scale and seasonality; we are taking the aquaculture of kelp to a technical new boundary by planting forests 5-20km offshore.
Sustainable impact on Blue Economy
Biodiversity & ecosystem engine (Kelp forest create habitats and food for hundreds of other plants and animals), increasing feedstocks, by carbon sequestration (from photosynthesis and locking CO2), aiding agriculture to reduce emissions (nature-based feed for animals and biostimulants) and lessen the use of antibiotics and chemical additives. Could also help the textile industry to replace intensive resource cellulose and help the circular economy by using the "waste" kelp for cellulose creation. Can produce a protein with over 70 vitamins and minerals.
