Nausicaá, National Sea Centre in Boulogne-sur-Mer (France), is an aquarium and a marine science centre visited by nearly a million people mainly from France, the Great Britain, Belgium and the Netherlands every year. Our exhibitions and educational activities enable visitors of all ages to discover marine environment and to learn about their relationship with the sea. The mission of Nausicaá is to raise awareness of the importance of the world ocean and to educate the general public about how to better manage marine resources while protecting the marine environment. To this end, Nausicaá disseminates scientific information and develops educational projects, events, outreach activities, communication campaigns and tools. In 1999 Nausicaá was recognized as the world’s first Centre of Excellence for ocean education by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the UNESCO and has collaborated with the UNESCO on many projects since then. In 2010, under the aegis of the World Ocean Network and in partnership with Acquario di Genova and Aquarium Finisterrae, Nausicaá launched Mr.Goodfish European communication campaign to promote sustainable seafood consumption in France, Italy and Spain and has coordinated it since then. Since 2012 Nausicaá has co-chaired the Blue Society think tank and in 2019 launched the Blue Living Lab, an open innovation platform to promote the blue economy through project development, knowledge sharing and co-creation with the general public. Since December 2019 Nausicaá has been implementing the Youth4Ocean Forum and the Network of Blue Schools as part of the EU4Ocean Coalition.
