Through our aquaponics technology, we take advantage of the symbiotic ecosystem between fish and crop farming, generating fresh, high-quality ASC certified fish protein and greens. Our developed modular system reduces maintenance interventions and increases water savings, food safety and productivity, being ocean- and wild fish-friendly and ideal for limited space urban environments. The modules were tested and improved with customers and are the ideal option to feed European cities of the future. Our Fish n’ Greens project, besides the production of ultra-organic, zero waste and totally sustainable food, is complemented with a full set of consumer and education interface strategies.
FnG project fits perfectly the “Farm to Fork” strategy, reflecting a totally sustainable food system and contributing to make Europe’s food system the gold standard for sustainability. It will also help increase Europe's food supply chain resilience in the wake of possible epidemic or pandemic crises.
The problem we are solving
Fish n’ Greens technological and market approach innovations are solving two main groups of problems – one related to the consumers and the other related to the food industry.
The excellence of the project is based on an own designed and developed modular food production technology using the aquaponics technique and interfacing with the urban consumer.
Urban consumers are increasing their demand for healthy, local and sustainably produced food. This means more natural food with no pesticides, no medication, no contaminants, like heavy metals or microplastics, with less CO2 emissions and smaller environmental footprint. Unfortunately, it is not easy to satisfy all these trendy requirements for fresh food in a convenient and trustable way for most consumers, due to so much information and so many unclear sources.
There has been a progressive deterioration of the fresh food’s EU balance of trade, particularly seafood, with the EU being heavily in deficit (EU is the world's leading importer of seafood with over 2/3 of the volume of fish consumed internally originating from external sources).
As a highly sustainable, safe, organic and intensive way of producing food, Fish n’ Greens can play an important role in European cities to level the balance of trade of fresh food, increasing self-sufficiency while satisfying local consumers, creating awareness and attending all consumer concerns in a convenient, affordable and trustable way.
