The Group was set up in April 2005 to contribute to the production of the report on the consultation period on the Green Paper on Maritime Policy and the related action plan, subsequently adopted in October 2007. After adoption of the Report and Action Plan, the group serves as coordination mechanism for the development and implementation of the actions proposed in it, as well as guidance for the sectoral work to follow-up on the actions. At the request of a department responsible for a sectoral initiative with a maritime dimension and by mutual agreement, interdepartmental coordination counting as formal interdepartmental consultation can be carried out in the Inter-Service Group.
