The EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030” is a large-scale, “Appollo-11 style” push to protect and restore the health of our ocean and waters. The objective of the Mission is to ensure the ocean plays its part in meeting the 2030 targets of the European Green Deal for:
The Mission will support an inclusive concept, “lighthouses”, focusing on developing and testing solutions in a given area. In the first phase (2021-2024) there are four lighthouses for:
Key enablers will facilitate the restoration through a digital knowledge ocean and water system (European Digital Twin Ocean) and public mobilisation and engagement.
EU Missions are a new way to bring concrete solutions to some of our greatest challenges. They have ambitious goals and will deliver tangible results by 2030. EU Missions are a novelty of the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.
