This consultation covers three separate EU biodiversity policy initiatives: 1. The evaluation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2020 (2011-2020), 2. With regard to target 5 of the 2020 Strategy, the review of the application of the EU Regulation on Invasive Alien Species, 3. The development of legally binding EU nature restoration targets: a key commitment of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030.

Message on Mediterranean Coast Day (25 September)

The public has an important role to play. Thanks to the rise of mobile broadband, today’s “Mediterraneans” are better informed and more organized than any other generation. Simple purchasing decisions taken at the supermarket and online clicks matter greatly. Businesses spend vast amounts to understand their customers’ preferences in order to tailor products and services accordingly. Observation shows that sustainable options will rise on the market if there is demand for it.

Workshop on the implementation of EU legislation related to waste fishing gear and passively fished waste in ports

In the first half of 2019, the European Parliament and Council adopted two flagship Directives – one on Port Reception Facilities (PRF) and one on Single-Use Plastics (SUP), with the goal to reduce plastic pollution of the oceans and to improve waste delivery and management in ports. The Commission actively supports the implementation of these Directives with a strong link the developments under the EU Green Deal and the circular economy package.

Meeting summary: 9th meeting for developing a SRIA for the Black Sea/ 8 MAY 2019, Bucharest

The meeting took place in Bucharest as part of the SUST-BLACK conference, where the ”Bucharest Declaration” of the scientific community was issued and the Strategic Research and Innovation agenda for the Black Sea (SRIA) officially launched. The group finalised the SRIA and discussed the avenues for the implementation of the Agenda.
