he name Mediterranean is derived from the Latin mediterraneus, meaning "inland" or "in the middle of the land" (from medius, "middle" and terra, "land"). It covers an approximate area of 2.5 million km² (965,000 sq mi), but its connection to the Atlantic (the Strait of Gibraltar) is only 14 km wide.

All people on Earth are directly or indirectly connected to the ocean in a variety of ways: through what we eat, breathe and use, where we go on a holiday. The ocean is our planet's life support system - and it needs our protection. This Network of European Blue Schools aims to inspire teacher, school director or staff of education services, to challenge their students, from kindergarten, primary, lower and upper secondary, technical or vocational schools, to develop a “Find the blue” project that links them to the ocean or the sea. By successfully completing the project and sharing its results, schools will receive the European Blue School label. |

Become a Member of the EU4Ocean Platform The EU4Ocean Platform is intended as an inclusive network of stakeholders willing to be actively engaged in connecting existing ocean literacy activities in Europe and shaping future actions. Nevertheless, the EU4Ocean Platform is a membership-based Platform, requiring interested stakeholders to apply through the online application form. This is a fast process, with an expected two working weeks turn-around for approval. |
