EMODnet Central Portal migrates to the 'Europa.eu' domain

The EMODnet Central Portal- EU’s gateway to in situ marine data in Europe and beyond- has moved to an European Commission (Europa) web address: emodnet.ec.europa.eu! This repatriation under a 'europa.eu' subdomain is an important milestone and reflects the long-term commitment of the European Commission Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) to EMODnet as a trustworthy and reliable operational service.

EMODnet dialogue on Ocean Best Practices: Special Cross-thematic Session at the 2nd EMODnet Jamboree

The Special Cross-thematic Session on Ocean Best Practices brought together key representatives from the EMODnet and wider European marine data community, and global experts to assess and discuss the current status of EMODnet’s contribution to Ocean Best Practices, including presentations on OBPS, testimonials of the value of existing EMODnet community practices, as well as experiences from the perspective of a National Oceanographic Data Centre.

The Map of the Week shows the density of plastic bags at the seafloor expressed as the average number of bags collected by fish-trawl surveys over the period of one year. Note that the absence of collected data in some areas does not mean they are free from plastic bags.
