The EMODnet Steering Committee main objectives are to (1)Guide the development of the EMODnet Entry Portal (2)Exchange information on the progress of the various EMODnet projects and initiatives, in particular with regards to the development of the thematic and Entry Portals (3)Streamline the interactions between the thematic assembly groups, the Sea Basin Checkpoints and the Secretariat and to discuss matters of relevance to improve the coherence of the various EMODnet projects; (4) Discuss and provide high level decisions related to operational matters to be implemented by the Entry Portal and thematic portals.

The EMODnet Technical Working Group consists of the data portal managers and developers involved in EMODnet projects. The group meets at least twice per year to discuss common challenges and solutions to provide better services to the EMODnet users.

European Ocean Observing System (EOOS) Conference, 21-23 November 2018, Brussels

The EOOS Conference will bring together the full breadth of ocean observing stakeholder communities from the scientific community, public authorities to industry and citizens to (i) present the wide variety of European efforts from existing observing/monitoring activities to gap analyses, identification of requirements, stress testing the system and assessing cost-benefits; (ii) align data acquisition activities with data processing, management, and sharing infrastructures and initiatives; and to (iii) discuss and strengthen the development of a coordinating ‘cycle’ for evolving EOOS.

EMODnet Secretariat progress update – July 2017

This is the second Secretariat progress since the start of the EMODnet Development Phase III (2017-2020) and covers activities developed within EMODnet in the period April to June 2017. All contracts for Phase III have been signed. All regional and thematic groups are progressing according to planning. A very exciting period has begun.

EMODnet Annual Report 2016

2016 was a successful year for EMODnet. We have already achieved what we set out to do by 2020; deliver a complete multi-resolution seabed map of European seas. EMODnet is now a reference source of data for those working in the coastal and offshore blue economy. It is already improving the forecasting of storm surges and helping national and regional authorities develop spatial plans and report the state of their marine environment.

8th EMODnet Steering Committee Meeting - Agenda

The EMODnet Steering Committee meets twice a year to revise progress and set the priorities for future developments. The 8th Steering Committee Meeting will follow on from a Sea-basin Checkpoints Workshop focusing on the Checkpoint methodology. The Sea-basin Checkpoints serve to stress test the adequacy of the current observational capacity at a regional/sea-basin level and their results contribute to the improvement of EMODnet.

EMODnet Checkpoint Methods Workshop

This Workshops will focus on streamlining the EMODnet Sea-basin checkpoint methodology. The Sea-basin Checkpoints perform stress test of the adequacy of the current observational capacity at a regional/sea-basin level and their results contribute to the improvement of EMODnet. The EMODnet Stakeholder Conference (14-15 February 2017, Brussels) highlighted the different approaches and methods applied by the sea-basin checkpoints stressing the need to assess best practices and a common way forward. The Sea-basin Checkpoints Workshop will take place back to back with the 8th EMODnet Steering Committee Meeting.

Blue Growth Data Challenge Part 1: Engaging Industry - EMD2017 Workshop

Current attempts to engage industry as users or providers of marine data are insufficient to fully unlock the wealth of European marine observations and data for blue growth. This workshop will discuss the challenges and benefits of public-private collaboration towards data acquisition and sharing. Drawing from initiatives such as WOC’s Smart Ocean Smart Industries program, MAREANO project, H2020 Columbus and the EMODnet Data Intestion Facility the workshop will identify best practices to promote industry-public collaborations and facilitate the uptake of data from private sector. It will set the stage for the follow-on workshop Blue Growth Data Challenge Part 2: Offshore Energy Case Studies.
