Study 2008-11 lot 2 Pilot projects to estimate potential and actual escapement of silver eel

Reporting on the proportion of eel that manages to escape to the oceans for the spawning migration is an important part of the Eel management Plans that should be operational by mid 2009. In order to estimate the amount of escapees a consistent methodology should be developed that could be applied by the Member States.

Did the plaice box work? Requested by the NSRAC the Commission will evaluate the effect of the plaice box and look at ways the performance of the plaice box could be improved if at all closed areas do work. The evaluation of the proposed changes to take long term economic, social and ecological effects on board. Why this study?

The International Baltic Sea Fish Commission’s Salmon Action Plan has since 1997 been in place to manage salmon in the Baltic Sea. With the EU membership of more Baltic States it was time to have a good look at the functioning of this Salmon Action Plan.
