EMODNET thematic assembly groups

Each EMODnet action gathers a partnership into a thematic assembly group. There are groups for bathymetry, geology, biology, chemistry, physics, habitats and human activity.  Each group aims to gather to relevant marine measurements within at least two sea–basins, to provide each measurement with comparable descriptors or metadata such as time and place of measurement and quality of measurement. These data are then processed into contiguous data layers over the whole sea basin. In addition maps are being prepared indicating where there are observations, where there are observations but the observations are not available and where the observations are missing. It is intended that all data and map layers be freely available.

EMODnet Annual Report 2016

2016 was a successful year for EMODnet. We have already achieved what we set out to do by 2020; deliver a complete multi-resolution seabed map of European seas. EMODnet is now a reference source of data for those working in the coastal and offshore blue economy. It is already improving the forecasting of storm surges and helping national and regional authorities develop spatial plans and report the state of their marine environment.

8th EMODnet Steering Committee Meeting - Agenda

The EMODnet Steering Committee meets twice a year to revise progress and set the priorities for future developments. The 8th Steering Committee Meeting will follow on from a Sea-basin Checkpoints Workshop focusing on the Checkpoint methodology. The Sea-basin Checkpoints serve to stress test the adequacy of the current observational capacity at a regional/sea-basin level and their results contribute to the improvement of EMODnet.

EMODnet Checkpoint Methods Workshop

This Workshops will focus on streamlining the EMODnet Sea-basin checkpoint methodology. The Sea-basin Checkpoints perform stress test of the adequacy of the current observational capacity at a regional/sea-basin level and their results contribute to the improvement of EMODnet. The EMODnet Stakeholder Conference (14-15 February 2017, Brussels) highlighted the different approaches and methods applied by the sea-basin checkpoints stressing the need to assess best practices and a common way forward. The Sea-basin Checkpoints Workshop will take place back to back with the 8th EMODnet Steering Committee Meeting.

Blue Growth Data Challenge Part 1: Engaging Industry - EMD2017 Workshop

Current attempts to engage industry as users or providers of marine data are insufficient to fully unlock the wealth of European marine observations and data for blue growth. This workshop will discuss the challenges and benefits of public-private collaboration towards data acquisition and sharing. Drawing from initiatives such as WOC’s Smart Ocean Smart Industries program, MAREANO project, H2020 Columbus and the EMODnet Data Intestion Facility the workshop will identify best practices to promote industry-public collaborations and facilitate the uptake of data from private sector. It will set the stage for the follow-on workshop Blue Growth Data Challenge Part 2: Offshore Energy Case Studies.
