EMODnet Secretariat progress update – Q1 2018

This update is based on the quarterly progress reports of the different EMODnet groups (Thematic Portals, Sea-basin Checkpoints, Data Ingestion Portal) supplemented with updates from the Secretariat. This is the fifth Secretariat progress report since the start of the EMODnet Development Phase III (2017-2020) and covers activities developed within EMODnet in the period January-February-March 2018.

Usefulness of INSPIRE standards for analysing human activity at sea

INSPIRE Directive 2007/2/EC set up a framework that helps scientists and engineers in public or private bodies find, access and use geospatial data. The European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet) partners are compliant with INSPIRE principles but have found that on its own, it is not enough to guarantee seamless coverage across national borders and that improvements in the data model would improve its fitness for purpose.
