European Atlas of the Seas

The European Atlas of the Seas provides information about Europe’s marine environment. Users can view predefined and ready to use maps, covering topics such as environment, tourism, security, energy, transport, litter, sea bottom, fishing activity, aquaculture, and much more.

Users can also benefit from an enriched catalogue with more than 250 map layers, covering a wide range of topics, to explore, collate and create their own maps. These maps can be printed, shared and embedded in articles or presentations. The Atlas is the ideal tool for schools, researchers and professionals, or anyone wishing to know more about the European seas and its coastal areas.

Map of the Week – Global mean sea level regional trend

The Map of the Week shows the spatial distribution of sea level trends between 1993 and 2019. It reveals that sea level is rising across most of the global ocean but there is large-scale variation.

The Map of the Week gives an overview of the 232 European Maritime Day in my Country 2021 local events organised in 25 different countries over a period of several months. Map of the Week – Coralligenous Habitats

The Map of the Week shows modelled spatial distributions of coralligenous outcrops and mäerl beds across the Mediterranean Sea. These bioconstructions are typical Mediterranean underwater seascapes, comprising coralline algal frameworks that grow in dim light conditions.

Map of the Week – Seafloor litter – Plastic bags density

The Map of the Week shows the density of plastic bags at the seafloor expressed as the average number of bags collected by fish-trawl surveys over the period of one year. Note that the absence of collected data in some areas does not mean they are free from plastic bags.
