Message on Mediterranean Coast Day (25 September) The public has an important role to play. Thanks to the rise of mobile broadband, today’s “Mediterraneans” are better informed and more organized than any other generation. Simple purchasing decisions taken at the supermarket and online clicks matter greatly. Businesses spend vast amounts to understand their customers’ preferences in order to tailor products and services accordingly. Observation shows that sustainable options will rise on the market if there is demand for it. |

BlueGeneration job portal launched to attract new generation into boating industry and promote blue economy careers 3 March 2020, Brussels – The BlueGeneration project, of which EBI is a leading partner, recently launched its flagship job portal. Companies in the recreational boating industry and across the blue economy can now advertise open positions and training opportunities free of charge to thousands of young Europeans. |

Western Mediterranean countries strengthen co-operation to promote Blue Economy in the region The Ministers of Western Mediterranean countries gathered in Naples (Italy), on 30 November 2017, in an Informal Ministerial Meeting endorsed and launched the Initiative for the sustainable development of the blue economy in the Western Mediterranean – a goal-oriented series of joint actions to make the common sea space safer, cleaner and more productive. |

Shipping density maps from AIS signals With growing demands for sea-space, the planning of new activities requires knowledge of what is already happening. EMODnet already provides many data on human activities but, so far, shipping has not been included. The increasing use and availability of information from ships' AIS anti-collision systems offers a route to provide this information. The aim of this meeting is to see how this can be done.
