PROJECT DESCRIPTION
BACKGROUND
LIFE-BECKON stimulates and boosts the deployment of Energy Communities across Europe by developing and delivering comprehensive support mechanisms for public authorities, promoters and Local Action Groups to better equip them to facilitate the creation of Energy Communities, therefore answering to clear needs and known barriers. The comprehensive support mechanism includes Technical Assistance cookbook to enable the creation of Technical Assistance Offices, Capacity Building program via Train the Trainer approach to increase stakeholder knowledge and integrated services via One-Stop-Shop platform to facilitate access to information, tools and guides as well as matchmaking among actors along the value chain. The support mechanisms will be validated in 3 supramunicipal areas in Avila-ES, Sofia-BG and Copenhagen-DK covering a wide range of conditions, cultural aspects and market maturities. Tailored dissemination and replication leverages the commitment of more than 30 authorities to replicate the mechanism and best practises, to reach a great number of stakeholders (>800), participation of more than 2500 citizens in energy communities and upskill 1400 actors during the 3 year duration of the project. Expected impacts include investments exceeding 38M€, primary energy savings of 20 GWh/y, renewable energy generation of 12 GWh/y, greenhouse gases emission reduction of 4,500 tCO2/y by the end of the project with superior upscaling in the subsequent 5 years. The consortium includes 8 partners from 7 European countries covering the needed expertise (e.g., technical, legal, financial, regulatory, participatory process, capacity building, dissemination and replication), committed to launch and validate these solutions in relevant geographical areas and ensuring access to a relevant network of potential partners and replicators. LIFE-BECKON has secured support from more than 90 entities via LoS from municipalities, energy agencies, public authorities, associations and SMEs.
