PROJECT DESCRIPTION
BACKGROUND
As the Wielkopolska Region is coordinating the process of just transition in Eastern Wielkopolska, the regional authority in 2020 developed and in 2021 aproved the key dokument: Strategy for Climate Neutrality Eastern Wielkopolska 2040 (RSCN), which will be a basis for holistic energy transition in all sectors of the economy towards climate neutrality in 2040. The governing body of the Wielkopolska Region is Marshal Office in Poznan (UMWW). UMWW comprises of 19 departments, including Department of Environment Management and Climate, governing the environmental policy, climate issues, air quality management and waste management. The Wielkopolska Region has sufficient know-how, highly qualified specialists in environmental protection and power system, as well as institutional capacity to coordinate the LIFE SIP. The main objective of the SIP is to significantly reduce the time required to achieve the intended outcomes in the RSCN by providing the conditions for its full and rapid implementation: (1) building and then consolidating a governance system for the pursuit of climate neutrality at regional and local levels, (2) achieve social acceptance and active involvement of the society of Eastern Wielkopolska in the economic and social transformation to a zero-emission economy, (3) mobilising additional external funds, to absorb and redistribute them for effective implementation of the RSCN, (4) supporting the implementation of the RSCN with a particular focus on the transformation process of the utility sector, transport and changes reducing CO2 emissions in SMEs, (5) standardization of solutions and to transfer and replicate them in other EU regions (including direct replication and transfer during SIP to the Łódzkie Region and to 2 coal regions in Bulgaria). SIP will integrate groups of stakeholders (about 50 formal participants in total) to suport of RSCN implementation in coordinated mode including aceleration of efective complementary fundings use.
