PROJECT DESCRIPTION
BACKGROUND
LIFE PolliNetwork is a demonstration project that strategically contributes to the conservation of pollinator insects. It ultimately aims to strongly increase the amount of habitat surface favorable to pollinators thanks to the concrete contribution of key stakeholders playing a key role in delivering and implementing strategies for the conservation of pollinators. LIFE Pollinetwork also pursues a tangible increase in knowledge, awareness and accountability of key actors on the presence and condition of pollinators in Italy. LIFE PolliNework contributes to the implementation of art.10 Reg.UE 2024/1991 Nature Restoration Law. The specific objectives are: 1)Initiate and develop a strategic process of improvement of wild pollinator habitats along relevant linear infrastructure (roads, railways and power lines) and power plants along the national territory. 2) Initiate and develop a strategic process of considerable improvement of habitat quality to provide food, shelter, nesting and wintering sites, within farms and protected natural areas. 3) Improving the technical capacity of operators and facilitating the improvement of pollinator habitat quality and management. 4)Accelerate and facilitate the development of an effective National Action Plan with real positive impact on pollinator conditions in all national regions. The project’s objectives will be achieved through: testing and disseminating of a new intervention approach, based on digital technology, that supports decision making (DSS); develop, test and use the best seeds mixtures for pollinators; implementing restoration and new and different management practices in close proximity of linear infrastructures; improving the management of selected natural and semi-natural areas, with an overall result in increasing the number of pollinator species and their abundance
