PROJECT DESCRIPTION
BACKGROUND
In line with Dutch and EU objectives, the Province of Limburg (NL) aims for a 100% circular economy in 2050. The CEL4LIFE project (Circular Economy Limburg 4 LIFE: Ready for a Circular Future) supports the implementation of the “Action Plan Circular Economy Limburg 2024-2027, on the way to 2030” (AP 2030). The AP 2030 works towards a 50% reduction of raw material use by 2030 as an important step towards the 2050 goal. As a regional LIFE SIP, CEL4LIFE targets specific bottlenecks Limburg faces as a resource intensive region with a large chemistry, manufacturing and construction industry, in a trinational (DE-BE-NL) setting, with socioeconomic and climate-resilience challenges. Its needs: • circular solutions, innovations and intersectoral value chains reaching the market • large-scale and uniform demand for circular and biobased concepts and innovations • sufficient human capital with knowledge and skills needed to boost the circular economy • enabling legal & governance, spatial and digital conditions for the circular economy CEL4LIFE targets the transition towards CE as a whole and focusses on 3 priority ecosystems in Limburg: (1) circular chemistry & materials, (2) circular & biobased construction and the circular built environment and (3) circular manufacturing. CEL4LIFe targets specific product & material groups supporting circular challenges and strategic circular projects. CEL4LIFE takes a cross-border and multi-level perspective, involving local communities and citizens, collaborating with other NL-BE-DE regions and ensuring replication & exploitation of results nationally & EU-wide. CEL4LIFE will result in firm coordination in a complex context by engaging & aligning stakeholders linked to the priority value chains, as well as measurable impact towards the 2030 circular economy goals as a result of the realisation and implementation of circular value chains in the selected ecosystems and product & material groups.
