PROJECT DESCRIPTION
BACKGROUND
SmarTA is a Technical Assistance (TA) project for Portugal, which will support public, private and social promoters of sustainable energy investments in the preparation and implementation of their projects. More specifically, the TA services will offer technical expertise including financial, and legal evaluation to implement sustainable energy projects to overcome the barriers, raise investment, comply with legislation and policy, increased awareness of developments and opportunities in sustainable energy sectors and awareness of society for the advantages of such investments, including renewable energy communities (REC) and energy performance contracting (EPC). The purpose of this TA is to provide the conditions for the development, investment, and sustainable management of sustainable energy projects in Portugal. The project builds on 2 very successful previous H2020 Project Development Assistance projects (BundleUP, each with over 40m€ of documented investment deployed in the public and private sectors) and aims to continue their legacy and established networks, by focusing on pushing the boundaries of EPC and fostering REC, including citizen-led renovation actions. To this avail, the project is coordinated by the leading European crowdlending platforms for sustainability, Goparity, the Portuguese Energy Agency ADENE (mobilising and capaciting central and public authorities), innovative testbeds, including municipal and inter-municipal communities, and a leading renewable energy cooperative, Coopernico, with ties to the social and cooperative sectors, and a a first-of-its-kind pilot in the 2023 Citizen-Led Renovation Service from the European Commission.
