PROJECT DESCRIPTION
BACKGROUND
The Project is aimed at optimizing and testing a new approach both for climate adaptation planning and for monitoring the results of the implemented Municipality's policies and interventions. The integrated operational tool that will be optimised and tested in a pilot area of the Municipality of Florence (Firenze Nova) is the Escapos system, intended to be integrated in the Smart City Control Room of the City, currently under completion. Escapos allows analyzing, studying, balancing, and optimizing the energy flows of any urban system in the perspective of resilient climate mitigation and adaptation. Continuous ante/post-operam monitoring will therefore be carried out in the area (parameters: temperature, humidity, air quality, wind speed and direction, illuminance), performed also with wearable monitoring systems that will be optimised as a product of the project, aimed at dynamically populating the data database and verifying the effectiveness of a series of interventions with an impact on the overall situation of the area. The climate mitigation interventions that will be implemented are linked to what is already envisaged by the Florence Municipality's Green Plan, attracting a series of public investments to the area. In addition to the interventions carried out by the public body, an added value is the involvement in the project of private subjects (companies) based in the area, in order to carry out further environmental improvement interventions (green roofs, painting with polymers to reduce heat absorption, etc.) and to start a virtuous system of public/private collaboration for the management of the territory. A point of strenght of the project will be the intense communication activity to the population and its direct involvement.
