A sequence of documents addressing the increasing threats to journalists and other media actors safety on and offline are included here, with a focus on strengthening EU Delegations ability to act and react to this growing threat in a wide range of contexts. Including are the Media4Democracy EU Delegation Handbook Protecting the Safety & Security of Journalists – Protecting Freedom of Expression completed with support from consortium partner Free Press Unlimited, an expert analysis with recommendations for the EU Delegation to Nicaragua, as well a sequence of EU Delegation training materials. Media4Democracy EU Delegation Information notes with policy breakdown, best practice and advocacy ideas are also included.  

These files are destined mainly for the use of European Commission Staff in HQ and delegations as well as EU Member States.

This Media4Democracy 2019 report for the EU Delegation to Nicaragua – Strengthening Media Freedom & Expression in Nicaragua - identifies the most critical factors constraining freedom of expression and media pluralism in Nicaragua, against the backdrop of the shrinking space for media and civil society and extreme insecurity for media actors.
