Dear users,

An incident on the FTP server is causing a delay on the delivery of the transmissions and feedbacks on EDAMIS 4 application .

However no data has been lost.

The technical team is already working on its resolution.

We are very sorry for the inconveniences that this issue may caused.

Eurostat has been working on the standardization and improvement of data validation reports. As the first step of the enhancements, a new HTML based structural validation (STRUVAL) report is introduced, replacing the current TXT report format. Once the change takes place, the previous report format will not be further available.

The introduction of the new validation report format takes place on 6th May, 2021.

The validation report for content validation (CONVAL) remains unchanged, and is available in the usual CSV format.

The introduction of the new the report format does not bring changes to the process of validation or the reporting of validation results. The validation reports may be retrieved from the usual location in EDAMIS, under the Transmissions > Received feedback files menu.

Should you experience issues with the new validation report, or want to share comments or requirements, please contact us via the SDMX support mailbox:

ESTAT-SUPPORT-SDMX@ec.europa.eu

You may find a brief guide to the validation report on the following link: User guide to validation reports 2021

The Eurostat metadata team is pleased to announce that a new release of the ESS Metadata Handler is now available in the Production environment and accessible here.

This version includes for example the enhancement and smoothening of the workflow within the application with amendments in the following main aspects:

  • Editing and other possibilities depending on the status of the metadata files and the role permission of the user
    • Validators: Editing of files in "Ready for validation" without reverting the file status to "Draft"
    • Editing generally restricted for files in statuses "Validated", "Published", "Deleted"
    • Improvement of "Recall" actions with guidelines and options to chose the destination status (depending on the assigned user role)
  • Notifications on actions performed in ESS MH to the various user roles
    • Provider and Super Provider will receive notifications when metadata files, they have access to, are being
      • "Validated" and "Published" or requested for clarification, i.e. "Need info (before Validation)";
      • "Restored" or "Deleted"
    • Validators now also receive notifications when metadata files they have access to are "Unpublished" and certain "Recall" actions are performed.
  • Abandoning of "Owner" concept in ESS MH: There is no "Owner" of a file recorded anymore, instead the "Sender" is recorded and displayed, whenever a file is being sent for validation. For information only, no notifications are tied to "Sender".

Furthermore, the following improvements or new features are introduced:

  • When the Editing wizard to a metadata file is blocked due to a lock by another user, you can now drop a message to the user occupying the file of interest via a "Notify the user" feature.
  • HTML views of guidelines available to Validators and Super Providers in  Administration > Guidelines.

Dear users,

We would like to inform you that an intervention has been scheduled on the servers hosting the EDAMIS 4 Production application, next Thursday April 22, at 12:00 A.M.

In consequence, the application will be accessible for the transmission of the data files but the delivery of the files and feedbacks will not be possible until the end of the intervention.

Any file sent during the intervention will be delivered once the intervention is over.

The estimated duration of this intervention is 3 hours.

 We apologize for the inconvenience that this operation may cause.

The Data Transmission Coordinators Group (DTCG) met on 12-13 April. The DTCG is a group whose members are the Transmission Coordinators (TCOs) of all ESS organisations.  For the first time, the OECD has joined the group as an observer.

This year, 43 participants attended and discussed several issues related to the EDAMIS 4 migration, including:

  • Coverage report and production issues
  • Overview of EDAMIS4 migration status
  • New transmission methods
  • Phase out of Web Forms
  • SDMX and Validation

All the presentations used during the meeting, as well as the preliminary conclusions, are available on CIRCABC: https://circabc.europa.eu/ui/group/32224ee0-3943-4472-9850-4e0284418f6a/library/72219c84-6dd7-4714-997f-f33dcf9c9a5d?p=1&n=10&sort=modified_DESC

We would like to thank all the TCOs for their presence and their valuable suggestions and especially the ones who share their experiences when testing the new transmission methods: Denmark and Norway.

If you have any questions on the DTCG meeting or want to share your ideas/inputs on the topics discussed contact us through ESTAT-SUPPORT-EDAMIS@ec.europa.eu

Eurostat metadata team is pleased to announce that a new release of the ESS Metadata Handler is now available in the Production environment and accessible here.

This version includes for example the enhancement or new availability of features:

  • Enhanced, more SDMX compliant implementation of code lists in metadata files. On download from and import to ESSMH, concepts referenced to code lists contain the code ID parsed in the tag <genericmetadata:Value>code ID</genericmetadata:Value>. For codelists accepting multiple values (multiple choice), each selected code is parsed in a separate tag accordingly. For backward compatibility, the application ESSMH also imports sdmx.xml files with concept values in form of code labels.
  • New Download and Report options in ESSMH for Viewer and Super viewer, ensuring confidentiality of information in metadata files.
  • New feature to export from and import xlsx files to ESSMH. Users can upload Excel files following a specific format, which can be retrieved from ESSMH. The import supports all representation formats currently in use for concepts (String, Date, Code lists, Boolean), enables to import of Images and Annexes and can be used for creation or modification of Metadata files, the user has access to. The import template comprises of three sheets,
    • "Metadata" containing all important administrative metadata for the file to be created / modified and the concepts of the Metadata or Quality report along with the corresponding concept values plus additional restriction flags, if applicable;
    • "Parameters" containing the identifiers (e.g. Concept IDs) for all the items from Metadata sheet;
    • "Annexes" containing information on attachments made to Metadata Attributes / Concepts or the Metadata file globally.

   This export and import feature is available for the export and import of Guidelines, too. Technical specifications for the file import to ESS MH can be found here.
