The ISO country code is a short for the ISO 3166 a standard published by the International Organization for Standardization.

This standard is divided into:

  • ISO 3166-1
    • ISO 3166-1 alpha-2
    • ISO 3166-1 alpha-3
    • ISO 3166-1 numeric
  • ISO 3166-2
  • ISO 3166-3

The two-letter ISO code should be used (ISO 3166 alpha-2), except for Greece and the United Kingdom, for which the abbreviations EL and UK are recommended[1].
