Welcome

Dear Editor welcome on-board!

Before starting it's good to learn a little about the ThinkTank. Understanding the Privacy policy is also very helpful. Good writing --Snajdal 11:39, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Admin and Bureaucrat?

Hi Michel, I've seen that you've started playing with the tool. Would you be interested to get also the roles of Admin and Bureaucrat? --- At the same time, it would be good to have some thoughts about the general look'n'feel, editorial policy and atribution of categories. KR --Snajdal 13:51, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Alexandr,
Thank you for your invitation.
I would be happy to help as admin or burocrat but I don't think I would have enough (free) time for the task.
Just a few thoughts:
  • I still not figure out the purpose of this wiki. May be you should explain this on the main page or add a visible link to the about page.
  • I miss the current Wikipedia interface (buttons)
  • The style of the pages shoulf mimick those of Wikipedia: notes and references at the bottom, no external links inside the body text but only a few relevant links grouped at the bottom of the page, above (?) the notes and references
  • Is there any page linking to it ? On page http://myintracomm.ec.europa.eu/together/EN/pages/welcome.aspx links to wikis only link to Confluence ones (and, of course a search for "think tank' from the myintracomm only gives bullshit as usual, but do no repeat this ;-) )
  • There should be a bistro area for discussion like this one ...

Hi Michel,
So since now you are ADMIN and Bureaucrat ;D
The official purpose of this wiki is https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/fpfis/mwikis/ThinkTank/index.php/ThinkTank:About#Goals_and_Aims (and all editors are free to modify it ;D)
Officious objective is to replace the Atlassian and M$ "enterprise" junk by simple and efficient solution.
In other words to break silos with really central information repository … (instead having "wiki" per team and replicating info "ad indefini & aethernam")
Pls, fee free to modify the content of the HomePage - I have a lot of difficulties to find what should be its content (lack of imagination)
For the look'n'feel - if you could get the skin, which is used by Wikipedia, it can be implemented the very same day (but we have to deliver the package to DIGIT, who then deploy it)
And pls go ahead with all other ideas …
KR

Other languages

In the ThinkTank all is already foreseen to have its content in all EU official languages and technicaly everything is already in place - for activation of each language a simple request has to be submitted.

However to ensure the quality of the content in each language there was a set a procedure among the contributors to launch new language (the policy, which could be, indeed, discussed).

Read also about Linguistic policy of the ThinkTank.

The language policy could be indeed reviewed - just having bad experience from to 'relaxed' project, which has failed due too laxist rules ... (the Wikipedia and Wikinews has the simillar (stricter) policy before launching new language - in order to keep their content up-to date)

Entry (es)

I would prefere to keep the convention <article name> for EN, <article name> + (vl) for other languages ... You have created several entries in ENglish related to Spain.

Therefore IMHO they should be name just <article name> + category:Spain and not <article name>+(es)

Or you should write them in Spanish :D --Snajdal 12:15, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

I do not agree. I currently work on Spanish files, in English, although Spanish is my third language. --Gerdami 12:33, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
have to be coherent with the naming policy - default lang is EN, then "art (fr)" is in FR ... so the art (es) is in ES and NOT about ES.
are you willing to start and maintain the ES rendition of the ThinkTank? --Snajdal 13:27, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
No. As I said above, I work mainly in English for Country desk Spain. --Gerdami 16:39, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Protect (button)

It is advisable to be very careful with using "Protect" feature - it can creates a little surprising impacts --Snajdal 13:46, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, I do not understand what you're talking about. --gerdami 14:51, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
once used, any later change has to be accepted by admin or bureaucrat (additional burden) - users may not see latest changes; could be discouraging for editors ... may have sense for stabilised/archived articles, where new development is not any more expected or wanted.
could be interesting for later use --Snajdal 11:04, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

PMI

PMI - could you complete it? --Snajdal 14:50, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Ref in EN + FR

IMHO Template_talk:Ref - should be bi(&+)lingual --Snajdal 16:57, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

naming convention

What do you think about https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/fpfis/mwikis/ThinkTank/index.php/ThinkTank_talk:Translations#naming_convention ? --Snajdal 08:35, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Not like. --Gerdami 08:39, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Template:PagesInCategory does not work in FR :(

https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/fpfis/mwikis/ThinkTank/index.php/Template_talk:PagesInCategory --Snajdal 09:52, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

It would work if we had the StringFunctions such as {{{1}}} --Gerdami 09:56, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
