The GEMI is the missions officer for your DG, Agency or Office. He/she is an expert not only on everything to do with the MIPS application, but also on the rules governing missions. You can find the name of your GEMI in MIPS under the heading 'contacts'.

The GEMI is an expert on the rules
He/she can examine each mission order or statement of expenses to ensure the correct application of the Guide to Missions and of any specific rules applicable in your DG, Agency or Office.
The GEMI is a MIPS expert
He/she provides MIPS support to users, defines the respective roles in the application (authorising officer, administrator, validator), may undertake tasks on behalf of the person travelling on mission if he/she is absent, manages the hierarchical visa chain, any delegations required, the budget allocation within the DG, etc.
The GEMI distributes all mission-related information

He/she forwards the information sent by the PMO to the staff travelling on mission and to the authorising officers.

The missions officers of PMO are also on hand to help you once your mission has been processed! You may, for example, wish to query why the amount reimbursed does not correspond to the amount detailed in your statement of expenses. Or you might realise that you have forgotten to include a request for reimbursement for a taxi and wish to claim those expenses back afterwards. Contact your missions officer and he/she will reply to all of your questions. You can find the name of the colleague who calculated your mission costs by looking under 'summary' in MIPS.
