EU Login

One account, many EU services

EU Login is an Authentication Service which offers:

  • A common and unique point of authentication to client sites
  • A single account for use with all client sites using EU Login for user authentication
  • Secure communication of the user credentials
  • Possibility to use secure authentication mechanism based on multi-factors (i.e. SMS, Mobile app)
  • Confidentiality of the user credentials, which are never divulged to client sites
  • Single-sign on facilities

The primary goal of creating accounts is to allow secured authentication by 'EU Login' for both internal and external (to the European Commission) users.

An authenticated user is a physical person who has proved her/his entitlement to use a unique identifier by presenting the correct token (e.g. a password, a challenge received by SMS, a challenge generated by a Mobile app, etc.) to the authentication service.

Depending on the security level required by the application which the user is accessing, single-factor (username + password) or multi-factor (username + password + challenge) authentication will have to be provided by the end-user.

History

Until 04.11.2016 the EU Login was labeled as ECAS (which stands for European Commission Authentication Service)

Not to be confused with ECLAS.

The European Commission's Authentication Service (or ECAS) was the system for logging on to a whole range of IT systems and on-line services run by European Commission.

It is meant to be used by both the staff of other EU institution as well as to "external" persons.
