SDMX Architecture for data sharing - part 1

At the beginning a brief introduction to sharing and transmission of data takes place, focusing on the Pull Mechanism.

In the next step a few service infrastructures for data collection are presented. The first one, the Data Repository (warehousing), is implemented by various organisations that periodically collect data and load them to their databases. The next infrastructure is the Data Hub, dedicated for delivering (sharing) data, which doesn't store any statistical data locally but translates and forwards user's requests to the related data providers' systems. Another mentioned infrastructure is the NSI Reference service, which is characterised by storing the data in two different dissemination database architectures, one for data and the second for mapping rules.

The last chapter thoroughly describes the mapping process (harmonisation) of statistical content, which might be necessary to implement the SDMX architecture for data sharing. Based on a data example from the Census Hub project, the mapping process is described in the three steps: creating a list of local concepts, associating the local concepts with DSD concepts and finally mapping of local codes with DSD codes.

SDMX Architecture for data sharing - part 2

This is the last one of a set of eight tutorials which describes solutions on how to implement the pull method in order to produce an SDMX data file from data stored in a local database. As an architecture example, the developed by Eurostat SDMX NSI Reference service is used.

Various SDMX compliant and non-compliant database schemas and architectures are discussed to explain the process of storing data ready for dissemination to potential data consumer.

A comprehensive presentation of SDMX NSI Reference service infrastructure takes place as a real live example. You will find a description of the infrastructure components/modules such as the Web Service Provider, Query Parser, Data Retriever, SDMX Data Generator, and you will know what their roles are.
