Global and Intercultural Dimension in Curriculum Development

Either in EFA courses, either in CEF courses, as well as in professional courses, there are disciplines and disciplinary areas in the field of citizenship education, in the scope of which intercultural, active citizenship or European dimension issues are worked.

Teachers decide, in the scope of their autonomy, the way these themes are treated.

In Portugal the Certified Modular Training is developed to meet specific needs, particularly in the development of foreign language skills.

In order to answer to this need, the National Qualifications Catalogue has been integrating gradually short training units, with a view to the progressive construction and completion of a professional qualification. Presently are available short training units on foreign languages in technological training component of some training references: English, French, Spanish, Italian, Finnish, Norwegian, Dutch and Swedish.

Partnerships and Networks

During the period that the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP – 2007-2013) was in effect, in the area of adult education, Portugal actively participated in large-scale projects, funded by the programme and centrally managed by DG EAC within the context of Transversal Programmes: KA1 (Studies and Comparative Research) KA2 (Languages), KA3 (ICT), KA4 (Valorisation) Multilateral Projects, Networks, Accompanying Measures, Studies).

For example, in 2012, Portugal participated in 11 centralised projects, of which 10 were multi-lateral projects, coordinating one of these projects, and one Grundtvig network.

The actions of the new Erasmus+ Programme, in the areas of Education and Training, includes funding for projects promoted by organisations that are active in adult education, or specifically dedicated to issues associated with adult education., namely via Key-action 2 (KA2 Strategic Partnerships).

Adult education can also be a specific theme for centralized projects on a larger scale as part of the Knowledge Alliances, or be developed through Key-action 3 (KA3: Support for policy reform).
