Student Mobility

The Erasmus sub-programme of the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) provided opportunities for higher education institutions to modernise their programmes and services. The objective of the programme was to increase and improve student and academic staff mobility, increase the number of international projects, support cooperation between higher education institutions and businesses and improve the transparency and academic recognition of higher education studies and qualifications. The sub-programme was the most successful and best-known programme of the European Commission, which supported the mobility of more than 3 million higher education students in Europe.

In the academic year of 2013/2014, more than 4000 students participated in it - nearly 1000 in practical training and the rest in mobility for study abroad. Hungarian students received a total of 8.7 million Euro grant.

LLP was replaced by Erasmus+ in 2014. In Erasmus+ higher education institutions awarded the Erasmus Charter of Higher Education (ECHE) are eligible to submit applications. This provides a general quality assurance framework for European and international cooperation implemented by higher education institutions in Erasmus+. The Charter is valid for the complete period of the Programme.

In the academic year of 2014/15, 47 higher education institutions implemented Erasmus+ mobility projects. The volume of student mobility was similar to that of the previous years. The programme provides extra funding for socially disadvantaged students – students received this extra funding in 20 per cent of the mobility implemented so far.

The EEA Grants programme supports cooperation in education between Hungary and the donor countries of Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein. One of the sub-programmes of the programme supports student mobility.

 Academic Staff Mobility

The higher education sub-programme of Erasmus also promoted the mobility of academic staff. In the academic year of 2013/2014 nearly 2000 academic staff participated in mobility programmes, supported by a total of 1.2 million Euros.

In the Erasmus+ programme a volume of academic mobility similar to the previous years is expected.

The EEA Grants programme supports cooperation in education between Hungary and the donor countries of Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein. One of the sub-programmes of the programme supports student mobility.
