According to Law 4186/2013 a Secretariat Office operates at every SEK, IEK, SDE and KDVM in order to support their work. All issues pertaining to the observance of the correspondence protocol, the handling and filing of documents, the Head’s correspondence and the reproduction of documents and other printed material fall under the responsibility of the Secretariat Office. Positions at the Secretariat Office are held by administrative employees who have been seconded from the relevant Regional Education Directorates of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs or temporarily transferred from the respective Lifelong Learning Directorates. The aforementioned posts may be served by Secondary Education Administration officers who have been transferred from regional posts managed by the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs or posts managed by authorities supervised by the same Ministry. 

Secretariats in SEKs, IEKs, SCSs and KDVMs with up to one hundred and eighty students are operated by two (2) persons. Secretariats in SEKs, IEKs, SCSs and KDVMs with up to four hundred students are operated by three (3) persons. Secretariats in SEKs, IEKs, SCSs and KDVMs with more than four hundred students are operated by four (4) persons.

According to the Ministerial Decision 5953/23-6-2014 as amended and in effect, for the purposes of the better functioning of Second Chance Schools, the consultancy bodies established are the Pedagogical Consultant (member of the Monitoring and Support Committee of the Educational work of SDEs (SCS), the Career Consultant and the Psychologist Consultant.

The Pedagogical Consultant:

  • Monitors and supports the educational work of schools.
  • Submits proposals to the Principal and the Teachers' Association regarding the pedagogical and educational support of teachers.

The Career Consultant:

  • Participates in each class for 1 hour per week.
  • Provides individual and group counseling aiming to facilitate and support learners in view of entering or re-entering the labor market.
  • Searches for information sources, collects, organizes and provides informative material able to meet the needs-requests of learners with regard to their professional capabilities.
  • Communicates with other bodies-services specialized in issues related to the labor market, educational bodies, training providers and refers learners to the appropriate services.
  • Creates records of learners and organizes a system for monitoring their development.

The Psychologist Consultant:

  • Participates in each class for 1 hour per week.
  • Provides individual and group (c)  Counseling aiming to facilitate and support learners.
  • Intervenes in a supportive manner for persons or groups who find it difficult to function in that specific educational context.
  • Cooperates, informs and supports teachers to address the problems that arise.

The Pedagogical Consultant, the Career Consultant and the Psychologist Consultant are selected for a definite period of time place by three-member committees consisting of the Director of the relevant SCS and two members nominated by the General Secretariat for Lifelong Learning and Youth.
